{"id":149,"date":"2014-08-11T21:15:27","date_gmt":"2014-08-11T21:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/halley2014.aq\/?p=149"},"modified":"2014-08-11T21:15:27","modified_gmt":"2014-08-11T21:15:27","slug":"sunrise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/halley2014.aq\/?p=149","title":{"rendered":"Sunrise!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunrise might seem like a rather normal affair back in the UK, but for the thirteen of us at Halley it was a much anticipated event as we have not seen the sun for over 100 days (sunset was 1st May.)<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_151\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-151\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/halley2014.aq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/sunup1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-151\" src=\"https:\/\/halley2014.aq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/sunup1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Sunrise - not an explosion!\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-151\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The sun &#8211; not an explosion!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While the days have been getting brighter, and it really thought about it yesterday, the disk of the sun finally popped up shortly before 13:00 today, much to everyone&#8217;s delight. While not an unexpected event, it is a major milestone in the wintering calender and promises the return of much warmer (but still sub-zero) days.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_152\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-152\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/halley2014.aq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/sunup2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-152\" src=\"https:\/\/halley2014.aq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/sunup2-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Sunrise\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-152\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunrise<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The day is marked by the raising of a new flag over the station by our youngest winterer and a short speech. Short being the preferable term, as the temperature was well below -40, although fortunately it wasn&#8217;t windy (which made for an inanimate flag, but warmer people!)
